1. Hi, I am thinking of trying to homeschool my children, as I am deeply disappointed with the quality of their Yeshiva instruction, but I am very apprehensive about what I will be sacrificing for them socially, and taking upon myself. I would love to speak to frum parents who are successfully homeschooling their kids, and hear about their experiences, the pros, cons, benefits and challenges as they play out in reality. Thanks, I can be reached @ d7liss@verizon.net
2. Hi- I'm not sure if this is right forum for this question, but here goes: As a teacher and a parent, I struggle with having a higher standard of propriety for my children then, say, the local library. My 9 year old is an avid reader, and I find myself lacking books that I approve for him to read. In his social culture, and natural curiosity, it's not realistic to limit him to only Jewish publications. I was wondering if there is a formal (or home-made) list of "kosher" secular reading that is stimulating, wholesome, and enjoyable. (For example, I would not include the Harry Potter books, Animorphs, or Warriors series on such a list, though he has read many of those and loved them- something around that level and genre. But they have violence and not great messages. I don't have a problem with the old Hardy Boys mysteries, as I remember them. Been through the Bobsey twins, and the easys stuff- Encyclopedia Brown, A-Z mysteries, Magic Treehouse, etc)  This particular kid loves science, and animals in particular. I thank anyone in advance for helpful input and wish everyone hatzlacha in the chinuch of their own students and children.
