I am the president of the Torah Prep Day School in St. Louis Missouri. We are in the process of reviewing our 2009/10 school calendar and every year the same issues come up. A large segment of our parent body have the following issues
1. They feel that the number of school days being 179 is too few and it should be increase. Out of the 179, 10 are half days.
2. We generally take off the day before a chag and in some cases like Pesach we are off two days before and one day after. Our parents that both work full days feel this is a huge burden and expense as they have to find baby sitters for those days.
3. Our Parent Teacher conferences are held during the day which means that the children are off from school on these days.
4. Our Teacher inservice training is also held during a school day and our children get off for these days as well.
It would greatly appreciate some feedback as to how and what other schools are doing and whether they have similar issues.
