1. I teach 8th grade American History and teach WWII closer to the end of the year. I would like to include a unit on the Shoa, but am not sure how to gear it for such young students (this is a topic normally covered by seniors in high school). I have the Project Wittness book, but am looking for ideas on how to present it to the girls, what to include, hashkafic points to cover, etc.
If anyone has taught this in the past or has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
2. I know it's a bit late, but there are many camps that offer girls a chance to attend for free if they work as mothers' helpers for part of the day. They are part of a regular bunk, are off for all major trips, and in general have the camp experience for free or at a reduced rate. I believe most camps have these opportunites availabe (usually CIT age).
Another option would be to find a well supervised bungalow colony that has counselor positions and accomodiations. The salary should cover airfare and expenses, and many times girls can work as mothers' helpers or babysitters at night as well.
A third option for older girls would be to particpate in project SEED.
