2. Question Presented May 2007

This question is directed to high school principals.

As an out of town school we expect and understand our above average

absences, it comes with the territory. These absences include students

as well as teachers. Everyone has family on the east coast and the

absences are expected - to a point.

* What policies has your school put into effect to minimize

absences?

* What consequences - or better yet incentives - are you giving to

students to discourage absences?

* What about teachers? As an out of town school, finding

substitutes is extremely challenging and a constant flow of substitutes

wreaks havoc on student behavior and achieving curriculum goals.

A few questions:

1) How are the boy's English reading skills, and was any remediation done/successful in that arena?

2) Is the boy willing/motivated to improve or resistant?

3) Other learning or social issues?

4) Was any remediation done in the past? Any clue to the reasons for its success/failure?

The Zobin method seems to work best for older boys. There is a person, Rabbi Dovid Abenson in Montreal who successfully uses this method. He even comes to Toronto on a regular basis to work with talmidim. I don?t have a number for him. ip
